What it means
The DPF is getting clogged, usually from lots of short trips.

Usually yes, carefully and for a short distance. The diesel particulate filter light means something needs attention soon, so have it checked in the next few days rather than ignoring it.
What to do
Drive 20–30 minutes at steady highway speed so it can clean itself. If it stays on, a shop can force a regeneration.
