Check engine (flashing) warning light: meaning and what to do

What it means

A flashing check engine light means a severe misfire. Unburned fuel can overheat and ruin the catalytic converter.

Can I keep driving?

No. When the check engine (flashing) light is on, pull over where it's safe and turn the engine off. Driving on can cause serious damage or make the car unsafe.

What to do

Reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration and get it checked today. If the car shakes or loses power, stop and have it towed.

On some cars it shows as text
